First Impression

My first impression of IS101 was not a good one, my first take was that it can get overwhelming fast and most of it does seem easy but it can get challenging quickly if you don't pay attention to details especially in Excel. I know there is some features in Microsoft Word that I'm not proficient in but overall anyone can use the program unlike Excel, maybe the basics you can mange but the true potential of Excel is massive there's so many features that can make your life ten times easier.

  1. Well said about 'it can get challenging quickly if you don't pay attention to details'!

This applies to everything, not just a computer class. If one does not sees the details of instructions or requirements, how would one fulfill them?

May you catch all the details and succeed in IS101 -- and anything you do in life -- on the first attempt :-)

    Welcome to IS101-3002, Spring 2024, Keina ^_^

  2. Hello Keina! I do have to agree it did get overwhelming really fast I was a bit overwhelmed at first too but after the week to settle in I figured out the time management to balance coursework. I look forward to seeing more of your blog and seeing you succeed in class.

  3. I agree to your point Keina, I am bit slow since it took 2 weeks for me to understand this fact. Now I could understand the flow of IS101, hoping to get on the track to catchup.

  4. Keina, you are so right about Microsoft Excel! It is a beast of an application. I have used excel quite a bit in my professional life for numerous tasks and projects. I would say I am somewhat proficient in using excel, but I am by no means an expert in all that it can offer. I especially have trouble with the formulas when creating a spreadsheet that I want auto-populate certain cells with data and information.

  5. I agree that this class is very detail-oriented, but I know this will definitely carry over past this class! I'm also definitely a beginner when it comes to things like Excel. I would love to fully master every nook and cranny in the software we're using in this class.

  6. Great reflection on your first impression of IS101! Your honesty about finding it potentially overwhelming, especially in Excel, is relatable for many starting the course. Your insight into Microsoft Word being more universally accessible while recognizing the massive potential of Excel's features is spot on. It's true; mastering the intricacies of Excel can indeed make tasks much more efficient. Best of luck as you delve deeper into the course, and I'm sure you'll uncover the true power of these tools!

  8. Keina, I too agree attention to detail is critical for success in this course. It has bitten my posterior repeatedly, my fault ;-)
I'm learning slowly but hopefully by the end of the course will be better at it.

  9. Hi Keina, you couldn't be any more right about this class. Quite a meticulous course for beginners in this "industry" or studies, I'm sure it can be laborious to finish certain tasks. But hey, it's possible, and I'm sure you can do it!

  10. Hi Keina, sorry to hear that your experience at the beginning of the class was not the greatest. It was definitely a little stressful realizing that there would be a lot of assignments with strict deadlines. Hopefully things are starting to fall into place for you.

  11. It's great to see a more pessimistic perspective to the class. It does go by really quickly and it does feel like there's a lot coming at you at once, what helps me a little bit is trying to do better time management. With High School, it was easier since we had more time to work through our problems and assignments. The better we understand Microsoft and excel and even more, the better.

  13. After reading your post I agree. Seeing the general workload it can be underwhelming. Also learning on how to really use excel and all its features is a whole different level of learning.

  14. Hi Keina! I agree with you on excel, that program has never been my strong suit, but this class taught me how to use it proficiently in easy, digestible steps. It truly is a great skill to have!

  15. Hi Keina, I agree with you what you have said that we have to pay attention. Sometimes I don't pay attention and I do it as per my own and I get in troubles.
